The countdown is down to 41 days! We've got our JR passes, booked the hotel for the last night next to the Narita Airport, arranged a house-sitter and have ordered a 'Mapple' touring guide which is supposed to be good for bicycle and motorcycle touring.
Our mini-laptop (Eee PC) has arrived and will do the job nicely. John has set up a Skype account so we can keep in touch with family. Most of the accommodation that we will be using offers Internet access - we'll be blogging, emailing or Skyping in the evenings. A bit different from John's early travelling days when he'd disappear for weeks on end and his family had no idea where he was. However, I am determined to send a postcard, just for the exercise of asking in Japanese 'Where is the post office?' and working out how much the post office staff are asking me to pay for the stamp. Besides the fun of the scooter journey I'm looking forward to using the trip as a full-on Japanese lesson.
I've put a bit more effort into my Japanese language practice and am feeling a bit more confident about communicating.
